Understanding holistic creative therapy

Discover a gentle path to healing and self-discovery through art and emotional well-being practices.

What is holistic creative therapy?

Holistic creative therapy is a gentle, non-invasive therapeutic approach that combines creative expression with a whole-person perspective. Instead of focusing on symptoms or a diagnosis, it considers how your emotional, mental, physical, social and spiritual wellbeing are connected.

Sometimes emotions are so strong and go so deep that they are hard to put into words.  Holistic creative therapy allows you to express yourself using paint, drawing media, clay or sand, so there is no struggle to search for the right words to convey how you are feeling.

You are in complete control - you don't have to talk about the past, you don't have to explain anything; there is no direct questioning, no analysis of what you say.  Holistic creative therapy offers you a safe space, with gentle guidance and the teaching of techniques to help in times of stress and high emotion.

Who is it for?

In short, everyone!

Holistic creative therapy can help if you are:

  • suffering from anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, stress or burnout
  • working through difficult emotions resulting from bereavement, surviving domestic abuse, childhood trauma or relationship breakdown
  • living with chronic illness or long-term physical conditions
  • simply looking for self-growth, self-acceptance or to build confidence

It can help to -

  • reduce stress, anxiety and overwhelm by allowing space to breathe and create, and teaching preventative techniques
  • gently process difficult emotions without the need to put them into words
  • improve self-awareness, boost confidence and sense of identity
  • boost mood and promote a more positive outlook, which can ultimately make you feel happier overall

Please note  -  Holistic Creative Therapy is a supportive wellness practice and is not a substitute for professional mental health care

What to expect in a session

During a session, we begin with a breathing or grounding exercise, or a meditation, to discard the day and bring our focus to the present moment.

We then move on to a creative activity.  This could involve painting, drawing, clay work or sand, and may also include music, movement, drama or creative writing.

You will be given an insight into the theory behind the activities, as well as ideas to extend the work at home if you want to.  You will also be given techniques and practices to try incorporating into your daily life.

Sessions are completely confidential and there is no pressure to talk about anything unless you wish to do so.  You will be gently supported and guided throughout the process.

"The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are"
